Faith in Action is an
interfaith, non-sectarian, non-discriminatory volunteer caregiving
initiative. Faith in Action brings
together volunteers from many faiths and backgrounds to work
together to care for older neighbors (65 and over) who have long-term
health needs. We began our
program in Fayette County
in 2003 with a seed grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and
expanded to Scott County
in 2007, thanks to a grant from Toyota.
Faith in Action volunteers come from churches, synagogues,
mosques, and other houses of worship, as well as the community at large.
Volunteers help those in need by providing non-medical assistance with
tasks such as:
- picking up a few
groceries or running errands
- picking up medical
prescriptions
- providing a ride
to the doctor
- friendly visits
- reading or helping
with paperwork
- telephone
reassurance
- minor chores and
maintenance
- yard work
- pet and plant care
